Discrimination occurs where someone is treated prejudicially as a result of certain personal characteristics, namely age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.
Those who discriminate on the grounds of one of these protected characteristics may be held liable for their actions, regardless of whether they are an employer or an employee. Employers should have a policy in place that promotes equality and diversity in the workplace and sets out expectations of employees in that regard.
RG&Co can help if you are:
- An employee – if you have been the subject of discrimination in the workplace and wish to bring a claim.
- An employer – if a claim is brought against you, or if an issue of discrimination arises and you want to protect your position. We can provide helpful advice on whether you have fulfilled all your obligations.
