Richard Griffiths

Richard was born and brought up in Salisbury and after reading law at Oxford, training with the city firm of Herbert Smith & Co and a stint as a full-time prosecutor for Hampshire Police, decided to establish his own firm in Salisbury in 1979.

That firm has now grown to be a broad-based high street law practice with offices in Salisbury, New Milton and Chippenham.

Richard has focused on criminal, consumer protection and road traffic law. He still keeps his hand in by doing his turn as Court duty and Police Station duty solicitor.

Richard has Higher Rights of Audience which allow him to appear in the Crown Court and Court of Appeal and he particularly enjoys trial advocacy.

Richard’s experience ranges from Judicial Review where, in a sex discrimination case, he prevented the closure of a school and was awarded costs against the then Secretary for Education; to appearances before the Institute of Actuaries; the Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal; The Lands Tribunal; The British Horseracing Authority; Crown Courts and Magistrates’ Courts all over England and Wales.

He has dealt with the full range of cases, ranging from the most basic to murder and large-scale conspiracy.
